Vertigo and dizziness can significantly affect balance, movement, and quality of life. Many patients feel like the world is spinning or swaying, which is often caused by displaced crystals in the inner ear. Physical therapy is an effective, evidence-based approach for managing vertigo, focusing on restoring balance and movement through a personalized assessment and treatment plan to help reduce symptoms and prevent recurrence.

Common Conditions We Treat

  • Vertigo and dizziness
  • Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV)
  • Headaches, neck and shoulder pain, migraine-related dizziness
  • Balance problems

How Vestibular Physical Therapy Works

One of the most common causes of vertigo is BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo). BPPV occurs when small calcium crystals (otoconia) become dislodged and move into the inner ear canals, disrupting normal balance signals and causing spinning sensations.

Our physical therapists perform a thorough evaluation to confirm the diagnosis, often using the Dix-Hallpike test, which gently moves your head to observe your symptoms and eye movements.

Effective Treatment: Canalith Repositioning Procedures (CRPs) The gold standard for treating BPPV is the use of CRPs — specific head and body maneuvers that guide the displaced crystals back to their original position, effectively reducing or eliminating vertigo.

Additional Balance Rehabilitation In addition to repositioning techniques, we also provide customized exercises to restore balance and help prevent future episodes. This includes vestibular exercises, posture advice, lifestyle modifications, and education on positions or movements to avoid. Our therapists follow up with you to track progress and adjust your care as needed to keep you feeling steady and confident.
